Photograph: Light into Her Soul

For Light into Her Soul, a swirling ruby-red glass tube filled with neon surrounds a powerfully defined female, illuminating the dancer and revealing what is both seen and unseen within her and around her. The innate power of the figure is made visible as she stands at the center of a kinetic vortex of light, suggesting the creative ability of women to shape their own images, destinies and worlds. As the figure makes the gesture of touching the heart, she unleashes the explosive, magnetic and transformative force within her and affirms the pleasures of knowing and feeling the inner power of the female soul.

Light Drawings

With all your science, can you tell how it is, and whence it is, that light comes into the soul?”Henry David Thoreau

My ‘light drawings’ are photographed using a medium-format camera, with each of the multiple elements exposed onto a single frame of transparency film. I draw with light using a variety of sources, including lasers, hand-blown colored glass neon tubes, electronic flash and black light. Each light source is composited for its unique color, shape, pattern, wave form and line into an ephemeral space that exists only during its exposure and where it becomes part of a timeless, fluid and visionary reality.
